Description

The Warehouse Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing a wide range of preventive, routine, and emergency maintenance tasks to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB) warehouse facilities and equipment. This position supports daily operations across multiple CAFB sites (DC and NOVA) and works closely with the Facilities Manager, vendors, and warehouse leadership to maintain compliance with AIB, OSHA, and CAFB safety standards.

Job responsibilities

Essential Functions:

Facility Maintenance & Repairs – Percentage – 25%

Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on facility systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, dock equipment, lighting, and building structure.
Inspect and maintain warehouse racking, doors, conveyors, and other material handling systems.
Respond promptly to facility-related work orders, ensuring issues are diagnosed, prioritized, and resolved efficiently.
Support setup, maintenance, and inspection of refrigeration units, freezer/cooler doors, and temperature monitoring systems.
Monitor and maintain building systems through CAFB’s Building Management System (BMS) and temperature logs.

Equipment & Safety Compliance – Percentage – 25%

Conduct routine inspections of warehouse and facility safety systems including fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, exit signage, and safety barriers.
Partner with vendors for fire suppression, pest control, HVAC, and security system maintenance.
Maintain documentation for AIB, TEFAP, and internal compliance audits.
Assist with facility readiness for safety audits and regulatory inspections.
Preventive Maintenance & Scheduling – Percentage – 25%

Support execution of preventive maintenance schedules for all facility systems and material handling equipment.
Record maintenance activity, parts usage, and equipment downtime within the CAFB tracking system.
Identify and escalate potential maintenance risks or trends to the Facilities Manager.
Operational Support – Percentage – 25%

Assist with minor construction, assembly, and installation projects (e.g., shelving, painting, signage, etc.).
Support event setup, warehouse space reconfiguration, and special projects as assigned.
Collaborate with warehouse and transportation teams to minimize operational downtime during maintenance activities.

Application qualifications

Education & Experience

Minimum 3–5 years of facility maintenance experience in a warehouse, industrial, or food service environment.
Technical or trade school Certification preferred.
Experience with HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or mechanical systems required.
Forklift certification or ability to become certified within 30 days of hire

Skills & Competencies

Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and mechanical aptitude.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
Working knowledge of building codes, OSHA, and safety best practices.
Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office, BMS systems, and CMMS software preferred.

Warehouse setting with occasional outdoor exposure

$28.32 to $36.40/hour

Schedule:

Regular work hours are Monday through Friday from 8am – 5pm, with weekends or extended hours for special events
On-Call (Weekends)
