Feeding America and Nationwide Foundation Partner to Provide Healthy Food Options to More Families

Nationwide Foundation’s largest gift to Feeding America provides much needed support for food banks across the country

July 21, 2016

Feeding America® today announced the receipt of $1.5 million from the Nationwide Foundation to provide fresh fruits and vegetables to people in need. Support from the Nationwide Foundation will help the Feeding America national network of food banks achieve its goal to provide 1.7 billion meals in produce by 2025.

Feeding America is the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief organization with 200 member food banks serving all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. The strength of the network is critical to fulfilling its mission of feeding America’s hungry. With this donation, Nationwide is investing in 22 food banks and supporting national produce sourcing efforts to help ensure safe and efficient produce delivery to food banks and their partner agencies.

“Together, through our partnership with Nationwide and the Nationwide Foundation, we’re not only fighting hunger but promoting healthier eating habits,” said Diana Aviv, CEO of Feeding America. “The Feeding America network is committed to providing the kinds of foods that promote good health to the people we serve and this donation will help us further that commitment.”

For many decades, the Nationwide Foundation, along with support from leaders and associates at Nationwide, have demonstrated a commitment to end hunger by providing financial and volunteer support. That commitment began more than 35 years ago with strong support of the Mid-Ohio Foodbank, a Feeding America member. This year marks the eighth year of the Nationwide Foundation’s partnership with Feeding America.

“We’re committed to addressing the most critical needs in the communities where we live and work. Often those needs are the most basic ones, like ensuring that everyone in the community has enough food to live a healthy, productive life,” said Chad Jester, president of the Nationwide Foundation. “We understand the importance of providing access to fresh, healthy food options. That’s why we are proud to partner with Feeding America as they lead the nation’s efforts to solve hunger and work together on such an important initiative like the fresh produce initiative.”
