Corporate Food Donations

Food and grocery donations from industry partners help the Feeding America network reach more people facing hunger. We receive food donations from national and local retailers, food service providers, and food companies. Then we move donated food and groceries to member food banks in communities where food is needed the most.

Can my company donate food?

Companies of all sizes can make a difference. Feeding America works closely with:

  • National food and grocery manufacturers
  • Retailers
  • Shippers
  • Packers and growers

What kind of food can my company donate?

Feeding America’s member food banks can accept a variety of excess food and grocery donations including, but not limited to:

  • Discontinued products
  • Recalled items
  • Imperfect or underweight packaging
  • Quality control
  • Food approaching expiration

We also accept highly perishable items such as milk, protein, and fresh produce, which help keep healthy food accessible to neighbors visiting member food banks.

How does my company start donating food to Feeding America?

Feeding America is the leader in rescuing surplus food and providing it to food banks and meal programs across the country. Donate your surplus food to the network through the MealConnect app. It is quick, easy, and safe. Once you post your donation, we’ll connect you with a local nonprofit partner who will arrange a pickup.

What benefit does my company receive when we donate food? Will we be protected if we donate?

In addition to helping end hunger in the United States, companies that donate products to Feeding America may be eligible for several tax deductions. In addition, donating food and grocery products can help companies manage inventory and reduce warehouse and disposal costs.

Food and grocery donors are also protected by the Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act.
