Donation to Support Disaster Relief Efforts and Local Food Bank in Puerto Rico
Feeding America® is pleased to announce a partnership with global superstar, singer and producer, Daddy Yankee to support Hurricane Maria relief efforts. The donation will provide much needed aid to Puerto Rico, which has been devastated by the widespread, catastrophic flooding of Hurricane Maria.
“As a Puerto Rican who lives on the island, I felt the call, that the rebuilding of my country has to be for a long term. In this initial phase, I want to make sure that every person has a plate to eat. In the long run, my commitment is work to ensure that the largest number of families on the island have a safe roof,” said Daddy Yankee.
Daddy Yankee, who was born and raised in Puerto Rico and who lives full-time on the island, has teamed up with Feeding America to benefit the Banco De Alimentos De Puerto Rico (Puerto Rico Food Bank) and provide support and relief to victims of recent hurricanes in Puerto Rico. The funds Daddy Yankee is raising for Banco will not only help now but will help in the long-term recovery as Feeding America works to reestablish the food assistance network throughout Puerto Rico.
“The devastation in Puerto Rico has been immense and we know that the road to recovery will be long and arduous for its residents,” said Dan Nisbet, Vice President of Development at Feeding America. “The local food bank and partner agencies are working night and day to distribute as much food, water and supplies throughout the island. Feeding America is grateful to have Daddy Yankee alongside us helping to place food directly into the hands of Puerto Ricans.”
In addition to his personal contribution, Daddy Yankee has raised more than $145,000 for Feeding America including a $40,000 donation from Zumba. Also, Daddy Yankee collected over ten trucks full of food, water, medical supplies and more at his concerts this past weekend, in New York, Chicago and Connecticut.
