Feeding America is pleased to announce a partnership with iHeart Radio host Elvis Duran to raise funds for disaster relief efforts in the wake of the recent hurricanes that have devastated communities in various parts of the country.
Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger-relief charity in the United States, has been engaged in disaster relief efforts even before this season’s first hurricane made landfall. With a network of 200 food banks, Feeding America has mobilized food banks to stage disaster relief boxes near impacted areas, sent staff and volunteers to support food banks in disaster areas, and raised food and fund donations for affected food banks.
Recently, Elvis flew to Miami before Hurricane Irma hit. He felt called to be on the ground during the storm, where he hosted Miami’s NewsRadio WIOD broadcast for 24/7 hurricane coverage. The entire weekend Elvis, morning show co-host Froggy, and Enrique Santos were live fielding calls and directing help throughout the community. As soon as Elvis returned to New York, he immediately looked into partnering with an organization in order to get immediate help over to Puerto Rico as well.
Elvis shares, “Not only has Feeding America proven its importance by rushing to help people who need food and supplies in Texas, Florida, and now Puerto Rico, they’ve been feeding our nation’s hungry for years…and will continue to do so long after the storms subside.”
Elvis has committed his airwaves, nationally broadcasted in over 80 markets, to encourage listeners to join the pledge and contribute whatever they can. Listeners can donate directly to the charity on www.feedingamerica.org/Elvis. The efforts made by Duran’s morning show will continue, with listeners receiving progress updates from the organization.
Dan Nisbet, Vice President of Development at Feeding America, said, “More than 10 million people listen to Elvis every week, and we are grateful not only for his generous gift but also that he wants to use his platform to help Feeding America provide food and disaster relief items to people affected by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria.”
