Director of Transportation

Description

The Director of Transportation is responsible for the leadership of the transportation operations including, developing, and implementing strategies for improving key performance indicators, continuous improvement of the transportation division, and upholding regulator standards for vehicle maintenance, corrective and preventive maintenance of all fleet equipment, driver qualifications, product safety and staff safety. Additionally, the Director of Transportation is responsible for ensuring proper safety and customer service levels.

Job responsibilities

• Develop and execute comprehensive transportation strategies to meet our operational and financial objectives.
• Plan, organize, and supervise employees' work to ensure it is accomplished according to our guidelines and objectives.
• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the transportation department, including fleet management, route planning, scheduling, and driver management.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including logistics, supply chain, and operations teams, to ensure seamless coordination and execution of transportation activities.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings within the transportation network.
• Plan, organize, and coordinate operations, inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
• Lead and mentor a team of transportation professionals, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, including DOT regulations, safety standards, and environmental regulations.
• Manage relationships with external partners, including carriers, suppliers, and regulatory agencies.
• Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure transportation performance and identify areas for improvement.
• Develop and manage transportation budgets, forecasting expenses, and identifying opportunities for cost optimization.

Application qualifications

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree in business, logistics, supply chain management, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in transportation management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
• Strong understanding of transportation regulations, compliance requirements, and industry best practices.
• Proven track record of developing and implementing transportation strategies that drive operational efficiency and cost savings.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
• Strategic thinker with the ability to anticipate future transportation trends and challenges.
• Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS) and other relevant software.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, SharePoint).
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and effectively manage competing priorities.
• Display a commitment to service above all else.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS

• Hours of Operation: Organization hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. However, this position may work additional hours occasionally throughout the year, especially during peak times such as holiday seasons, and disaster response.
• Environment: This position works in an office setting with varying periods of standing, talking, and/or visual concentration, and use of office equipment. Must maintain office safety standards. Occasional work will occur in the warehouse or outside in fields and warehouses in inclement weather. The noise in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
• Travel: This position will require travel for meetings, conferences, or special events within the quad-county service area, which may require the use of a personal vehicle.
• OSHA Standards Lifting requirements are 50 pounds and when lifting loads heavier than 50 pounds, use two or more people to lift the load.
