The Feeding America network stands in unwavering solidarity with each community and every person within them who are impacted by this weekend’s devastating flash floods along the Guadalupe River outside of San Antonio. We know that we are far from alone in our care. Our nation consistently distinguishes itself in the ways that we rally around each other during tragic times like these. Our hearts are broken with yours by the unspeakable loss and united with yours in recovery efforts. Many of you have already begun amazing outreach to the most impacted areas. We are not at all surprised.
As one of the nation’s largest disaster-relief organizations, the Feeding America network includes hundreds of food banks and tens of thousands of faith-based and charitable partners, serving every county in the United States. When we work to be helpful in responding to disasters across the nation, we are never alone. We are honored to stand shoulder to shoulder with all of you. And, we will summon every resource we can muster as we commit not only to provide support in the days and weeks ahead, but also in the months and years to come.
Today, the San Antonio Food Bank and its San Angelo branch are on the ground leading emergency food and supply efforts across Kerr County and surrounding areas in close coordination with local pantries and partners. They have mobilized truckloads of food, water and essential items and are actively coordinating distributions for families affected by the floods.
Supporting the local food bank is a wonderful way to help on-the-ground efforts after a disaster, when smaller organizations may be overwhelmed and facing challenges and loss of their own. Food banks and other partners live in the communities they serve. So, they are often well positioned to connect community members and organizations with the resources they need the most, and, together, their work will ensure ongoing care and support is available as recovery efforts unfold. They serve their communities before, during, and long after a disaster. The Feeding America national organization, along with millions of supporters and volunteers across the country, will walk beside them every step of the way.
Powered by local action and reinforced by persistent care from people across the country, we are all working together to ensure that no one is alone in the face of disaster. Help is already there, and it will stay long after the cameras are gone.
