Feeding America statement on Congress passing budget reconciliation legislation

The passage of the budget reconciliation bill is a significant setback for people and communities facing barriers to accessing the food and resources they need to thrive. At a time when food insecurity is rising nationwide, this legislation threatens to worsen the crisis, taking away access to food and health care from millions of people, including children, seniors, veterans and people with disabilities.

Every day, we are inspired by the resourcefulness and determination of people facing hunger, and we stand firmly by their side as they work to overcome challenges and build brighter futures for themselves and their families. We are deeply grateful to the partners, advocates, volunteers, supporters and the public who join us in addressing hunger and strengthening our communities. We are committed to working with communities and lawmakers to source food from farmers, government agencies, manufacturers and retailers so that it reaches the people who will need it most. We are also committed to working with those same communities and lawmakers to expand and strengthen federal nutrition programs to ensure no one goes hungry.

As a network of more than 200 food banks and 60,000 faith-based and charitable partners that provided over 6 billion meals last year, we know real progress is possible when we work together. While the challenges are considerable, they also strengthen our resolve to push for meaningful change. I am hopeful because we have seen how collective efforts can transform lives. Feeding America remains committed to a future without hunger, and we invite everyone who shares this vision to join us.
