Feeding America Applauds the Biden Administration’s Commitment to Hunger Relief in Fiscal Year 2024 Budget Request

March 10, 2023

“Feeding America applauds the continued commitment to hunger relief and equitable access to nutritious food outlined in the Biden administration’s 2024 federal budget request. This budget invests in a brighter future for individuals, families and our nation by strengthening federal nutrition programs that help millions of people put food on the table.

“The budget would make crucial investments in The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which will help food banks meet the continued heightened need for food assistance as well as shorten the lines of people at food distributions. It would provide full funding for TEFAP storage and distribution, an essential stream of funding that helps food banks offset the cost of storing, transporting and distributing the large quantities of U.S.-grown foods provided by the United States Department of Agriculture. The budget bolsters SNAP, the most effective anti-hunger program in the U.S., by calling for a 2023 Farm Bill that strengthens funding for the program and removes barriers to enrollment. The budget also proposes to reinstate an expanded Child Tax Credit, a powerful and proven tool to help ensure families can access the food and resources they need to thrive.

“The Feeding America food bank network is working overtime to help people facing hunger put food on the table. But to build an America where no one is hungry, our nation needs a cross-sector approach that includes both a strong charitable food system and robust government investment in federal nutrition programs. We are committed to working alongside people facing hunger, the administration, Congress and other partners to advance policies that will help ensure equitable access to nutritious food for all.”
