Statement attributed to Vince Hall, Chief Government Relations Officer
“Feeding America urges Congress to pass legislation raising the debt limit without conditions. If the U.S. defaults on its debt, the severe economic consequences will increase the need for food assistance. America’s food banks are already struggling to meet persistently high demand while facing increased costs, ongoing supply disruptions and decreased food donations.
“Feeding America also urges Congress to strengthen and enhance the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) as part of a bipartisan farm bill that will help families and farmers by improving critical nutrition and agriculture programs. Congress must also invest in programs that help create pathways out of poverty, such as job training, workforce housing and affordable child care.
“We urge Congress to pass a clean debt ceiling bill. ”
