Being recognized by Forbes for the fourth consecutive year is both humbling and motivating. It reflects the generosity and commitment of millions of people. Over the last year advocates, donors, partners and volunteers across America stood alongside their neighbors facing hunger. They raised their voices to urge policymakers to act. They gave their time to help provide meals in communities nationwide. And they demonstrated extraordinary generosity by investing in the work of the Feeding America network, ensuring families had access to food when they needed it most.
This recognition also underscores a sobering reality that so many resources are still required to help meet the nutritional needs of nearly 50 million people who, in the last year, turned to the Feeding America network of food banks, statewide food bank associations, food pantries and meal programs serving communities across the entire country. Since the pandemic, the number of people facing hunger has continued to rise. Millions of hardworking families are forced to make impossible choices among food, housing, health care and other essentials. These are avoidable choices that no one should have to face.
We know better solutions exist. While we must continue to address the immediate needs of people facing hunger, it is imperative that more people have clear pathways to self-sufficiency, supported by policies and systems that work for them.
People facing hunger are working every day toward solutions, and we all need to join them in their efforts. Nonprofits, businesses and government must work together to ensure consistent, reliable access to food, guided by the voices and experiences of people facing hunger.
This recognition is not a finish line. It is a reminder that the moment for unified action is now. Together, we can build a hunger-free America.
