“With 42 million people across the country struggling with hunger, it is vital that adequate resources are provided for federal hunger-relief and anti-poverty programs. Unfortunately, the FY 2018 Budget Blueprint proposed today by President Trump puts the vulnerable and low-income populations in harm’s way by jeopardizing funding for programs that serve Americans who have fallen on hard times.
“President Trump’s FY 2018 budget overview proposes cuts to Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), AmeriCorps, the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG), Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and many other programs that provide critical support for low-income individuals.
“We're disappointed in these proposed cuts and the harm they would mean for children, seniors and families striving to make ends meet. As the president puts together his full budget and Congress prepares for its budget process, we urge them to keep nutrition and support programs strong so that we keep our commitment to helping people with physical and mental challenges, kids and seniors as well as hard working families.”
