On National Farmers Day and every day, Feeding America is grateful for our nation’s farmers who help ensure people across the country have access to the fresh, nutritious food we all need to thrive.
We all know that America’s farmers grow many things that are essential to all of us. Some may not realize that they grow community too by helping nourish tens of millions of our neighbors who face challenges accessing the food they need.
Fresh produce, protein and dairy are among the most requested items for those who visit Feeding America foodbanks and pantries. Thanks to partnerships with farmers and agricultural producers, millions of families can bring these foods, that might otherwise be out of reach, home.
In recent years, we have witnessed how vulnerable our food system can be.
We know from experience that our nation can both ensure that farmers and agricultural producers have the support they need to navigate today’s challenges and make certain every community and each person within it has nutritious food, as well. Supporting our nation’s farmers with investments that provide opportunities, like people that provided unprecedented economic relief in 2020, positions our nation to weather times of economic volatility.
At Feeding America, we proudly stand with farmers and with people experiencing hunger as we seek to build a stronger food system—something we know cannot happen without a strong agricultural base.
On this National Farmers Day, let's show our support by ensuring that the urgent economic needs facing so many across the nation are met. And let's leave no one behind.
