POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Staff Accountant is responsible for working with the Controller to ensure the proper fulfillment and accuracy of accounting functions and procedures within the accounting department. The Staff Accountant, under the supervision of the Controller, will perform accounting functions and support to ensure adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS), including the development and implementation of strong internal controls, which support streamlined processes. The position will assist with key day-to-day activities of the accounting department related to the preparation and review of financial documents and statements including maintaining the Chart of Accounts, Balance Sheet, General Ledger (GL) and detailed report schedules including fixed assets, prepaid expenses and all program expense allocations.

Job responsibilities

The Staff Accountant will (including but not limited to):
• Perform daily and monthly banking tasks ensuring control and accuracy at all times and performs general ledger account and bank statement reconciliation.
• A/R – Maintain accurate records of transactions of pending donations; A/P – Perform transactions to ensure finances are maintained in a timely and accurate manner. Maintain files on cash receipts, bank deposits, outgoing checks, back-up documentation. Reconcile all bank, credit card, loan accounts and database accounts.
• Maintains/tracks all grant job costing for proper allocation of temporary restrictions; coordinates and maintains all grant billings, financial reports and documentation; verifies all billings are complete and reconciled to the general ledger (including A/P-A/R); and compiles complex grant expense reports as required by grantors. Also, meets with the Grants Coordinator and department staff to review responsibilities for grant management and reporting; and maintains communication throughout the grant period.
• Assists the Controller with the month-end closing process, conducting research and making corrections for account discrepancies, journal entries and preparation of financial statements and assist with annual budgeting, year-end close and audits; also supports the Accounting Clerk as needed; including all payroll processing functions.
• Other duties as assigned

Application qualifications

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
• Experience with significantly contributing to audit activities, financial reporting, budgeting/forecasting and general ledger.
• A minimum of five years of full-time, professional employment in accounting, auditing, budgeting, or closely related financial activity.
• Non-Profit and/or Cost Accounting experience
• Intermediate to advanced knowledge of QuickBooks, Excel, Word and Outlook
• Ability to work harmoniously with staff members and ability to work independently with little supervision.
• Professional demeanor, flexible, and able to respond to multiple demands.

• Full-time, non-exempt position; Monday – Friday (40 hours/week), with occasional weekends, evenings and holidays as needed

• Pay Range: $33.50 to $41.00 per hour / depending upon experience (median of range)
