Feeding the Valley Food Bank, headquartered in Columbus, GA, serves as a centralized hub for receiving and distributing donated food, fresh produce, and grocery products from national and local retail donors across an 18-county service area with a population of 566,143. Our mission is to empower our neighbors to overcome hunger by ensuring access to food. Close to 102,000 people in our region are food insecure, including 37,790 children under 18. Behind these numbers lies a profound need, one that shapes our every action.
As a proud member of the Feeding America network, Feeding the Valley aligns its work with national standards and strategies to strengthen the hunger relief system across the country. This affiliation ensures that our programs reflect best practices in food banking, nutrition, and community engagement, while connecting us to a broader ecosystem of resources, partnerships, and advocacy.
We accomplish our mission through three core programs:
Our Partner Agency Food Distribution Program is the primary way we distribute food to neighbors facing hunger. We collaborate with a network of approximately 300 nonprofit partner agencies and churches throughout our 18-county service area, acquiring millions of pounds of food annually at no or low cost so that these partners can provide food assistance directly to people in their neighborhoods. This collaborative model extends our reach far beyond what we could accomplish alone, ensuring that food gets to the people who need it most through trusted, community-based organizations that understand the unique needs of the populations they serve.
Our Children’s Food Programs recognize that hunger doesn't take the weekend or summer off. The Buddy Pack Program serves children who live in food-insecure homes and are likely to experience hunger outside of school hours. Every Friday, Buddy Packs are distributed containing 10-12 nutritious, child-friendly, ready-to-eat food items providing a critical bridge between the school week and Monday morning. Our Kids Cafe program provides nutritious after school meals in safe and nurturing environments. Hot meals are prepared in our commercial kitchen and distributed in Columbus, Phenix City, Albany, and LaGrange. This year-round program provides more than 512,500 meals annually. This includes additional summer meals when school is not in session, ensuring that the nutritional support children rely on during the school year doesn't disappear when the bell rings for the last time in May.
Our Mobile Pantry Program brings food directly to the people who need it most, particularly in rural areas of our service region where access to grocery stores or emergency food pantries is severely limited. With 41 mobile pantry distributions each month, our teams deliver food boxes packed by volunteers containing canned goods and groceries, as well as frozen meats, fresh produce, dairy, and bakery items. This program is essential to reaching neighbors in our most underserved communities.
