General Position Summary
The Marketing & Communications Specialist supports Food Lifeline by executing marketing and communications activities that increase brand awareness, engage key audiences, and advance food justice in Western Washington. This role is a hands-on, execution-focused position responsible for developing, producing, and delivering communications content across multiple channels in support of fundraising, community engagement, and organizational priorities.
The Marketing & Communications Specialist plays a key role in telling community-centered stories, elevating the voices of agency partners and neighbors experiencing food insecurity, and supporting the Giving Team’s outreach and fundraising efforts through timely, high quality communications and marketing materials.
This is a hybrid position with a set schedule of three (3) days per week working onsite at Food Lifeline.
Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities
Communications & Storytelling Execution
• Execute community-centered storytelling that elevates the voices of agency
partners, community partners, and neighbors addressing food insecurity, with a focus on dignity, abundance, and community-led solutions.
• Develop written and visual content that humanizes Food Lifeline’s work and helps audiences understand the root causes of food insecurity and food justice.
• Produce stories that align with Food Lifeline’s 2025–2029 Strategic Plan, highlighting impact across Network Resilience, Equitable Food Access, Right Foods, Community Power, and Organizational Health.
• Gather stories from agency partners and communities across all 17 counties in Western Washington to ensure diverse voices and experiences are represented.
• Support the ongoing execution of Food Lifeline’s messaging by producing content that aligns with organizational voice, values, and equity commitments.
Marketing & Development Communications Support
• Execute marketing and communications tasks in support of the Development Department’s fundraising, donor engagement, volunteer, and advocacy efforts.
• Write, edit, and produce a variety of internal and external communications,
including but not limited to newsletters, donor communications, web content,
social media content, e-newsletters, campaign materials, and annual impact
content.
• Respond to content needs as they arise, supporting time-sensitive campaigns, appeals, events, and organizational initiatives.
• Collaborate with internal teams to ensure messaging is consistent, accurate, and aligned across departments and audiences.
Media & Public Communications Support
• Support execution of media and public communications activities, including
drafting press releases, media pitches, talking points, and background materials.
• Assist with coordinating media opportunities, interviews, and story placements in partnership with the Marketing & Communications team.
• Monitor local and regional news related to food insecurity and food policy and support timely responses and content development as needed.
• Maintain organized records of media coverage, press materials, and
communications assets.
Content Execution & Coordination
• Execute the development and delivery of marketing and communications materials by coordinating with internal teams and external vendors as needed.
• Ensure communications tasks are completed accurately, on time, and in alignment with established priorities and workflows.
• Track and organize communications outputs, assets, and content calendars to support smooth execution of ongoing work.
• Support basic tracking and reporting of communications activities and outcomes to understand reach and effectiveness.
Secondary Functions
• Support Development Department goals and objectives as assigned.
• Participate in meetings, committees, events, and work groups as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Highly Valued Job Skills

• Ability to translate complex topics into clear, engaging, and accessible
communications.
• Experience creating written and visual content, including photography and video, for storytelling purposes.
• Familiarity with community-centered fundraising and equity-based messaging practices.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external partners.
• Demonstrated commitment to food justice, equity, and community-centered work.

Education and/or Experience
• Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field required.
• Experience working with diverse communities and stakeholders.
• Lived experience or demonstrated understanding of food insecurity preferred.
Job Conditions
• Hybrid position with a required set schedule of three (3) days per week onsite.
• Work performed in an office environment with standard office equipment.
• Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for events or special
activities.
• Some travel within Western Washington required.
Schedule, Location & Benefits:
Salary range: $75,000–$80,000 annually
Location: Hybrid position based in Seattle, WA, with a set schedule of three (3) days per week onsite
