Description

The purpose of the Local Driver-Class A is to safely and efficiently operate commercial motor vehicle in urban, suburban, and rural areas in the state of Indiana to transport freight. This position is required to load and unload food products to charitable feeding partners and programs. All responsibilities shall be consistent with Gleaners Food Bank's mission to be a leader in the fight against hunger.

Job responsibilities

Deliver food donations to charitable feeding programs
Load orders on trailer for delivery when necessary (must be able to operate forklift and pallet jacks)
Make direct deliveries of product to distribution sites and agencies as scheduled
Pick up food donations from donor companies
Unload donations brought back and make sure receipts are with product
Complete Return Form for all returned product
Provides superior customer service internally and externally.
Comply with DOT, food safety, company policies, federal, state and local regulations.
Operate 53’ trailers or straight trucks with refrigeration units.
Safe operation of equipment and on-time deliveries/pick-ups
Maintain cleanliness of trucks.
Complete all necessary forms and paperwork.
Reliability & Dependability is especially important for this position
Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements of the Local Driver - Class A CDL:

Class A CDL with current and valid DOT medical certificate
Candidate must have a good driving record
Valid driver's license/Clean driving record /Must be insurable by company vehicle insurance provider.
2+ years tractor/trailer route delivery experience
High School Diploma/GED preferred
Experience with hand held route phone devices is desirable
Knowledge of DOT, state, and local trucking regulations is required

Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills
Ability to read, write, and understand instructions
Ability to communicate professionally and respectfully with all staff members, agencies, volunteers, and donors
Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds
Ability to perform basic math functions, count accurately, and maintain accurate records
Ability to operate lift gate safely
Ability to sit; stand; walk; twist; bend; use hands to grasp, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms
Ability to speak and hear clearly
Ability to lift and/or and move 50 lbs. and push/pull 2,000lbs. of product using manual pallet jack regularly.
Ability to drive, including traveling locally 90% of time
Ability to operate electric and manual pallet jacks.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
