Controller is responsible for overseeing the accounting, finance, and reporting functions around monthly close, financial reporting, budgeting/forecasting, and all audits within the Yuma Community Food Bank. The Controller will maintain internal controls, and support executive leadership in financial decisions and reporting. Direct report to the position is a shared Finance Assistant. Hybrid, work three days in-person and two remotely. YCFB is Partner Food Bank member with Feeding America.
Works directly with the President and Chief Executive Officer.
Specific duties and responsibilities may fluctuate.
1. Oversee all financial and accounting systems (Ceres)
• Verify that all functional areas and processes adhere to internal control requirements.
• Deliver technical training across the organization pertaining to the accounting system.
• Implement ongoing system enhancements to improve organizational efficiency.
2. Responsible for and manages the timely and accurate preparation and completion of:
• Month-end close reporting,
• Quarterly and annual budgeting/forecasting,
• Prepare bi-monthly board financials for review by Treasurer
• Mandatory financial, state, and government audits,
• Feeding America required reporting,
• Manage reporting and timekeeping for third party payroll, ADP Total Source
• Inventory cycle counts with Operations team
• Other financial reporting and analytical needs as directed.
3. Primary contact for all Audits and respective data collection, with external auditors and internal contacts, including but not limited to financial statement, Single Audit, IRS 990, and any Governmental specific audits. Tax returns are prepared by contracted audit firm.
4. Provide oversight of financial reporting associated with all revenue streams, including government grants and private philanthropic contributions.
5. Collaborate with the Development team on all financial activity, data analytics, reporting, and key metrics within gift processing; identify and implement process improvements where applicable.
6. Develop, implement, and enforce robust accounting controls, policies, and procedures to ensure the integrity of financial reporting. Create new workflows and efficiencies as needed.
7. Assist in managing treasury functions, including cash management, cash inflow forecasting, and coordinating investment actions as appropriate with CEO and Board Treasurer
8. Oversee all Accounts Payable operations, including vendor management and payment processing with Finance assistant.
9. Assist ADP HR with employee performance reviews. oversee recruitment and training processes of new employees, address disciplinary matters, facilitate conflict resolution, and conduct annual performance evaluations.
10. Serve as an expert resource on financial statement matters by remaining current on Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and UPMIFA standards.
11. Execute special projects assigned by President and CEO
Application qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting required
• Minimum of 5 years not for profit accounting experience required.
• Solid experience in coordinating audit activities and financial reporting, budgeting/forecasting, and general ledger.
• Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, complex technical issues in a clear and concise manner, including presentations to senior management, board members and outside partners.
• Technology savvy with experience overseeing software installations and managing relationships with project manager/vendors, including advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software.
• Proficiency in MS Office 365- Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint Cloud storage
• Ability to take initiative by identifying problems, conceptualizing resolutions, and implementing change.
• Attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and manage projects to ensure all deadlines are met is essential.
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced team environment with minimum supervision; Ability to work efficiently and accurately with details and fluctuating work volumes.
