The Chief Development Officer is responsible for designing and leading comprehensive fundraising and communication strategies for MANNA Foodbank. This position is responsible for achieving all fundraising goals and managing the overall performance of the entire Development team, including identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual, corporate, and foundation gifts, including major gifts, planned giving, special events, and DirectMail. This position is also responsible for engaging our community through marketing, communication and volunteer solicitation. The Chief Development Officer will work effectively in a highly visible role safeguarding and building the brand and reputation of MANNA with a broad range of constituents. The position serves as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team and will work collaboratively with all departments within MANNA as well as with the Board in fulfillment of MANNA FoodBank’s mission and vision.
Design and lead the development and implementation of an ambitious fundraising plan, including budgets and work plans with specific tasks and realistic timelines.
Take the lead role in major gifts, with support from the development team and the CEO.
Lead special initiatives, including any capital campaigns or other time-limited fundraising activities.
Lead the development of communication strategies and serve as a primary voice to share MANNA’s mission and vision with the community.
Collaborate with the Board and staff to inspire and guide their respective roles in MANNA’s overall development efforts.
Create and present reports to staff, board members, and external audiences – using data to advance our understanding of engagement opportunities
Provide oversight to the production of solicitations and guide all brand print materials as needed to communicate efficiently and effectively to an external audience.
Build, lead and motivate a high performing development team to ensure our by efforts are on target and accomplished in a timely and professional manner.
Ensure timely and accurate documentation of donor data and reporting to grantors and Board
Serve as an ambassador for MANNA to the public and the community
Commitment to centering and elevating the voices of people facing hunger
Awareness and working knowledge of hunger and the factors and socioeconomic trends influencing the experience food insecurity
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Ten or more years of successful experience in development (especially annual giving and major gifts)
A successful track record of identification, cultivation, relationship building, stewardship, and solicitation of major gifts and increased annual gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations
Deep experience and understanding of a wide range of funding streams, including individual giving, organizational funding partners, and foundation support.
In-depth understanding of current issues and trends in philanthropy and state of the art fundraising analytics
Knowledge and commitment to excellent stewardship, ethical standards and practices for fundraising professionals
Experience hiring, managing, motivating, and retaining a team of staff that strives to achieve excellence and exceed goals.
Able to manage and lead a team of professionals, as well as work independently and collaboratively with a diverse audience including staff from all departments, Board members and volunteers
Excellent oral and written communication skills suitable for a wide variety of audiences
Computer skills (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) required
Experience with donor database software
Occasional evening and weekend assignments
Works effectively as part of a team, is a problem solver, self-starter, and is able to respond quickly to changing requirements
Outstanding Customer Service and relationship building skills and a passion for MANNA’s mission.
Successful track record in building positive community partnerships.
Demonstrated talents in exercising good judgement, emotional intelligence, sound decision-making and adaptability.
Demonstrated talents and experience in motivating and building high performing teams.
Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment balancing multiple priorities.
Knowledge of the principles of nonprofit management.
A strong desire to educate and inspire others in the mission of Manna FoodBank
Knowledge of food bank operations a plus
