Neiman Marcus And Bergdorf Goodman's The Good Event Benefits Feeding America

April 27, 2009

Feeding America, the nation's largest hunger-relief organization, announced today that it will partner with all 40 Neiman Marcus stores, and Bergdorf Goodman, through The Good Event. The stores will help raise funds to benefit Feeding America's network for nation-wide food assistance programs Thursday, April 30 through Saturday, May 2.

Neiman Marcus customers who purchase a $40 non-transferable donation card in the Contemporary Sportswear, Sport Shop, Dress Collections and Men's Contemporary Sportswear departments, will receive a 30 percent discount on full-priced merchandise in these select areas. Bergdorf Goodman will also provide a 30 percent discount off full-priced merchandise in their 5F contemporary department.

One hundred percent of the customer's $40 donation will support the Feeding America network with the majority of the funds going toward the stores' area member food bank; the remainder will support national programs.

"The face of hunger is changing in America. More and more middle class and working families are now relying on food pantries to help feed their families. In fact, some people who use to be donors to our Feeding America food banks are themselves now turning to us for help," says Vicki Escarra, president and CEO of Feeding America."The Good Event partnership with Neiman Marcus is a great, new way for those with the ability to help others, to give back directly to their communities in a convenient way. The event will also increase hunger awareness nationally."

In announcing The Good Event partnership, Karen Katz, Neiman Marcus President and CEO said,"To be a great company you have to be a good company. This belief and commitment has been at the heart of our corporate values for over a century. As our founder Herbert Marcus famously said, 'It's not enough to take out of the community, you must give back.' It is in this spirit that Neiman Marcus has created"The Good Event" as a way for the community to join in our efforts with a donation to Feeding America."

Local food bank representatives will participate in an all-store staff meeting at each store to discuss their work in the community.
