Partnering with farmers to help feed communities

Feeding America is the nation’s largest hunger-relief organization, working closely with farmers to rescue fresh, nutritious food that would otherwise go uneaten.

Together, we work to provide nourishing meals to communities across America.

Advocating for strong agricultural policies

Feeding America partners with farmers to advocate for stronger federal nutrition programs, ensuring that neighbors have access to the food they need year-round. By increasing funding for programs like The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), we can support both farmers and communities, helping to create a resilient and sustainable food system.

From farm to food bank

Feeding America works with farmers across the country to rescue food and ensure it reaches families facing hunger. Here's how the process works:

1
Partner with farmers

We collaborate with growers and agricultural partners to identify surplus or unharvested food that might otherwise go uneaten.

2
Collect and distribute

Through our network of food banks, we coordinate the transportation and storage of fresh produce, dairy, and proteins to get them where they’re needed most.

3
Feed communities

Food banks and partner agencies distribute the rescued food to local pantries, meal programs, and directly to neighbors, ensuring fresh food makes it to tables nationwide.

The impact of hunger and food rescue

Millions of people in the United States face food insecurity, but together, we can make a difference. Feeding America rescues billions of pounds of food each year to help nourish communities. Here's the impact:

47 million people in the United States are food insecure

4 billion pounds of food rescued anually by Feeding America

977 million pounds of food rescued from growers in 2024
