Feeding America conducts Map the Meal Gap annually to improve our understanding of how food insecurity and food costs vary at the local level. The study estimates overall and child food insecurity for every county and congressional district in the United States as well as local food insecurity estimates for seniors, older adults, by select income levels, and select racial and ethnic groups

Map the Meal Gap provides estimates of local food insecurity and food costs on an annual basis to better understand people and places facing hunger and to inform decisions and actions that will help us achieve our mission. We do this by generating national and local data about food insecurity, translating those data into insights and tools, and engaging partners to help them use and improve our data and research in the future.

It is our hope that the nationwide network of food banks, statewide state associations, food pantries and meal programs, as well as people facing food insecurity, policymakers, organizations and supporters will use this information and engage in the movement to end hunger
