Remembering Harvey: Stories from Survivors

It’s hard to believe it has been a year since Hurricane Harvey unleashed its wrath on Texas, devastating areas of Houston and beyond. The storm hurt millions – leaving many without homes, jobs and even enough food to feed their families.

In the midst of disaster, the nation banded together to help survivors. The Feeding America network supported Houston Food Bank in its incredible efforts to meet the increased need – but even so, a year later, many affected by Harvey are still struggling to pick up the pieces.

To recognize the ongoing struggles and resiliency of Harvey survivors, Feeding America partnered with StoryCorps – a national storytelling organization with a mission to preserve and share humanity’s stories – to share the stories of people facing hunger in Harvey’s aftermath.

Together, we traveled to Houston to interview survivors. They told tales of loss, shame, fear, joy, and hope.

We are honored to be able to share a few of these stories below. Listen, share, and learn more about how you can continue to support ongoing disaster relief efforts in Houston and beyond.
