Help us transform surplus food into hope

An astounding 92 billion pounds of food go to waste in the United States every year. This waste means lost resources and missed opportunities to ease food insecurity.

Join the Food Rescue Challenge. Help us bring more food to our neighbors experiencing food insecurity by turning surplus food into nourishment.

92 billion pounds of food go to waste each year

This makes food waste the single largest category of materials in landfills.

That's why we have set a $50 MILLION goal to incrementally secure an additional 1 BILLION pounds of rescued food annually.

The Food Rescue Fund

The newly established "Food Rescue Fund" aims to raise an additional $50 million in funding to ensure more nutritious food reaches the people who need it. Here's how:

  • Rescuing more farm-fresh foods, like produce, dairy and protein (also known as agricultural products), which are some of neighbors’ top-requested items at food banks.

  • Rescuing more food from retailers like grocery stores, by strengthening partnerships and increasing pick-ups. Last year, we sourced more than 2 billion pounds of food through retail donations alone. We estimate 800 million pounds of food is yet to be rescued from retailers.

  • Using innovative technologies, like our MealConnect platform, which quickly and efficiently connects food banks with local food donors at no cost to businesses.

  • Provide freight subsidies address a significant hurdle to a food bank’s ability to source more food and offset the costs to move donated and purchased items within the Feeding America network.

  • Provide capacity building tools and services that enable partner food banks to further develop and implement strategic, sustainable local product sourcing plans.

Together, with significant investments from national partners and donors we can fight hunger by ensuring equitable food access through hunger relief and food rescue programs.

The more we are able to inspire increased financial gifts and deepened partnerships, we can significantly increase our ability to address hunger-and its complex challenges-by transforming food rescue.
