Dave and Sue Souerwine know that hunger is a solvable problem.  That's why they joined the van Hengel Society which honors individuals who make legacy gifts to benefit Feeding America.

For years, they’ve been involved with Atlanta Mission, Atlanta Community Food Bank, and North Fulton Community Charities, before deciding to expand their support to the national level by including Feeding America in their estate plans. In doing so, they were welcomed to a society of like-minded individuals who were inspired by the movement to end hunger in America, and trust that their legacy gift will support this vision well into the future.

In 2019, they began their partnership with Feeding America. “It is not acceptable for the richest country in the world to have nearly 50 million food insecure people,” says the couple.

The two have a long-held interest in food insecurity and homelessness, and say they’ve been able to learn even more about the urgent state of hunger through Feeding America’s communications.

1 in 7 people, including 1 in 5 children, are living in food insecure households, according to a recent USDA survey.  But the Souerwines say that Feeding America is driving the solution to end hunger. They included Feeding America in their estate plans after being impressed with the organization’s scope, success, and delivery of programs, as well as its leadership and financials.

“We wanted to help in a more meaningful way and found that having Feeding America as part of our estate plan made sense to us,” said the two. “We believe it is part of our responsibility as citizens and people who care about the overall society to financially support charities that are making a difference.”
