Casey's General Stores

Since 2020, Casey’s General Stores has held an annual register campaign to support the mission to end hunger—and its 2025 campaign marked the fifth consecutive year-over-year increase.

Casey’s 2025 register campaign provided more than 8.6 million meals to nearly 60 food banks in Casey’s communities. Its partner, Celsius, also donated $25,000 to the campaign.

Rallying to Inspire Hunger Relief
Hunger and food access are a challenge for 47 million people in the United States, including 1 in 5 children. In 2020, amid a global pandemic, Casey’s leadership saw the immense increased need for charitable services. Determined to deliver support both in the short and long term, leadership spent time with team members, of which there are more than 47,000, and its customers to learn how and where they give back.

“The goal was to learn what resonates for our team members and guests—and hunger rose to the top,” said Angela Wood, Manager of Community Engagement for Casey’s.

Spurred by their team members and guests, Casey’s made its first donation to Feeding America as part of the COVID-19 response. From there, the convenience store company built and fostered a deeper relationship with Feeding America, implementing the round-up-at-the-register campaign not long after.

Prioritizing Rural Hunger
Rural communities—where a large portion of Casey’s stores are located—are hit especially hard by hunger.  Casey’s, a Feeding America Mission Partner, has many store locations located in populations of 5,000 people or less.

“It can be more difficult for people who live in these areas as access to food is not readily available,” Wood said.

Casey’s support in the movement to end hunger means a portion of its giving is provided to the food banks in the communities where Casey’s stores are located. With more than 2,900 stores spanning 19 states, Casey’s support makes a meaningful difference in the lives of people who are working to access the food and resources they need to thrive.

At Feeding America, we know that food insecurity can affect anyone, but it’s not the same for everyone. Historical and ongoing unfairness have created significant barriers in areas like education, employment, housing and more, which have inordinately impacted neighbors living in rural communities and communities of color more than others.

According to Map the Meal Gap, Feeding America’s annual study, 16.1% of individuals living in rural communities were food insecure in 2023. In the U.S., 87% of counties with the highest rates of food insecurity are rural.

Strengthening Food Rescue Partnership
To help end hunger in the U.S., partners like Casey’s understand the importance of rescuing excess food. Feeding America is the largest and most established food rescue organization in the U.S. and when we all work together, we can build a more sustainable future where everyone has access to the food they need.

In the U.S., 92 billion pounds of food are left uneaten each year, making excess food the single largest category of materials in landfills. Casey’s is in the process of developing a food rescue pilot program that will be launched soon. In addition, Casey’s three distribution centers, in Missouri, Indiana and Iowa, partner with local food banks to donate excess food so that people facing hunger receive the food they need. Last year, with the support of Casey’s and other retail and business partners, the Feeding America network sourced more than 2 billion pounds of food through retail donations alone.
