When donors and partners trust that Feeding America has the infrastructure and scope to direct funds effectively, network members across the country can achieve the greatest impact for neighbors facing hunger in their communities. Partners like AAA and Ford understand that a rebalance in the charitable giving relationship between donors and communities is key—that power must be shared—to achieve our vision of an America where no one is hungry.

An example of power-sharing-in-action is our work with the Food Security Equity Impact Fund (FSEIF), which launched in 2021 and was seeded with an unrestricted $20 million gift from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott to Feeding America. Grounded in equity and social justice, FSEIF advances community-driven solutions to remove systemic barriers to food security and increase neighbors’ access to nutritious and culturally preferred foods. Since its inception, FSEIF has awarded over $14 million in grants, to date, to support 35 food banks and more than 75 community partners to address the root causes of hunger in their communities.

Through trust-based philanthropy—listening to communities and supporting the hunger-relief solutions, both immediate and long term, that they deem best—lasting impact for neighbors facing hunger is within reach.
