For Jack Truong, nourishment is more than just a meal. It’s about making sure people have a strong foundation — and the resources to thrive.
“People need help to get back on their feet and then the assistance to keep standing on their own,” he says.
Jack and his wife, Maria, began supporting Feeding America after visiting the Greater Chicago Food Depository. He was inspired to see and learn about the ability of the food bank—part of the nationwide Feeding America network—to meet immediate need, address root causes of hunger and enable thriving futures through programs that provide job training and experience. Recently, the couple made a significant, multi-year investment, supporting the work of both Feeding America at the national level and the Greater Chicago Food Depository at the local level.
Jack donates because he understands firsthand how powerful support can be when it’s needed most. Jack says he grew up in war-torn Vietnam. Even still, his family was comfortable. But when the family had to move the U.S. when he was in the seventh grade, suddenly, they had “nothing.”
“Anything can be taken away from you,” he says, “Just like that.”
With the support of charitable nonprofits, the family had the stability they needed to regain their footing. Knowing that their family was fed and clothed, Jack’s parents were able to find work, Jack started school—and even started a paper route.
Since then, Jack Truong has held numerous a global CEO positions. He attributes his current success to this first year in the U.S. During that time, he learned the value of hard work. He learned to be diligent and dependable. Now he wants to ensure that everyone has this opportunity. And he wants to inspire other CEOs to join the movement too.
