In the U.S. today, 13 million children face hunger—that’s 1 in 6 . Chances are, someone your child goes to school with struggles to get enough to eat.

Just as hunger knows no age, neither does fighting it. We all have a role to play in solving hunger, whether old or young. Children can make a positive difference in the lives of other kids in need. It’s important to talk children about hunger, and inspire them to take action against it.

We’ve provided resources designed to help you do just that. Talk to the kids in your life about hunger and encourage them to help. Only when we all work together—young and old—can we focus on ending hunger, and make sure every child has the food they need to grow healthy and strong.

Ways to fight hunger as a family

Set the Table™ for a hunger-free America

Teach your kids the importance of giving back to their local community and those in need by creating a personal fundraising campaign through Set the Table. They can donate their birthday or other special events to the cause by asking friends and family to make a donation to Feeding America in lieu of buying presents.

Volunteer as a family

The Feeding America network of food banks serve virtually every community across the country. Connect with your food bank for local ways to get involved. If your family is involved in a community group—such as Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts or 4H—see if the group can volunteer together.

Color for change

Download and print these coloring sheets for your kids to color and share. They can be shared on your fridge, in your kid’s class or on social media using #FeedingAmerica to raise awareness for the 1 in 6 kids struggling with hunger.

Additional resources

Another way to take action against hunger is to learn more about hunger, and read books that explore community building and helping others. There are lots of great books out there for kids of all ages about the realities of hunger.
