Feeding America is pleased to welcome Diana Aviv as she begins her role as chief executive officer today. We are excited to have her expertise and leadership to further Feeding America’s mission to solve hunger.

Diana joins us today with more than 30 years of leading nonprofits. Most recently, she served as President and CEO of Independent Sector, the national leadership network for America’s nonprofits, foundations, and corporate giving programs. Since its founding in 1980, Independent Sector has sponsored research, advocated for public policies that support the independent sector, and created resources so staff, boards and volunteers can improve their organizations and better serve their communities. During her tenure at Independent Sector, Diana interacted with numerous food banks that use its resources.

In addition to leading Independent Sector, Diana served as executive director of the Panel on the Nonprofit Sector, an independent panel which recommended actions to strengthen the governance, transparency, and accountability of public charities and private foundations, many of which were enacted into law. And in December 2010, President Obama appointed her to the White House Council for Community Solutions that mobilizes citizens, nonprofits, businesses, and government to solve community needs.

“I have admired Feeding America and its extraordinary efforts to provide much needed help to our most vulnerable community members,” said Diana. “I look forward to joining the organization’s dedicated team and continuing to bring together many different groups to strengthen our communities to help people achieve food security, stability and no longer know what it is to be hungry. Together I believe we can achieve a hunger-free America.”

It’s clear that in addition to her vast expertise, Diana is also bringing something more to her role as CEO – she is bringing her passion for helping people in need. We look forward to having her on our team as we continue to serve more than 46 million Americans facing hunger by giving them food and hope for a brighter future.
