Description

The Vice President of Technology’s role is to align technology operations and business as usual with technology and enterprise strategy by integrating company processes with the appropriate technologies ensuring documentation and team training to optimize The Food Bank’s applications. This individual oversees the maintenance of existing enterprise systems and help desk support to team members while providing direction in all technology-related issues in support of information operations and core company values. The VP of Technology Operations will work in partnership with the VP of Digital Strategy to use technology effectively and efficiently in the on-going mission of The Greater Boston Food Bank.

Position Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Strategy & Planning

Participate as a member of the Senior Leadership Team and lead organization in areas of infrastructure, hardware support, telecommunications, networks, programming, media, and support.
Work with VP of Digital Strategy and CFO to identify ongoing areas of risk and cyber security including access improvements.
Be a thought leader in the organization by ensuring process documentation and understanding throughout the organization; establish protocol requirements as necessary.
Work closely with VP of Digital Strategy to ensure that technology strategy, projects and implementation are properly prioritized.
Execute a technology plan that supports organizational needs.
Develop and communicate business/technology alignment plans to executive team, staff, partners, customers, and stakeholders.
Direct development and execution of an enterprise-wide disaster recovery and business continuity plan.
Participate as a standing member of the Technology Architecture Review Board

Acquisition & Deployment

Assess and communicate risks associated with technology-related investments and purchases.
Develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for existing technology spending and initiatives using vendor management and change management protocols.
Execute requirements for new technology implementations and communicate them to key business stakeholders including documentation and training for all relevant team members.
Review hardware and software acquisition and maintenance contracts and pursue master agreements to capitalize on economies of scale. These should routinely include Service Level Agreements (SLA).
Define and communicate corporate procedures, policies, and standards for the organization for acquiring, implementing, and operating new network systems, equipment, software, and other technologies.
In collaboration with Project Management Office (PMO) approve, prioritize, and control projects and the project portfolio as they relate to the selection, acquisition, development, and installation of major information systems.

Operational Management

Oversee and conduct research to remain up-to-date and knowledgeable in regard to industry trends and emerging technologies in anticipation of new business processes and system alterations.
Provide management, oversight and mentoring to Senior Director of Information Systems
As a member of a future Innovation Lab analyze and improve upon technology standards across the organization to maintain a technological and competitive edge within the market.
Act as primary liaison for the company’s Technology Operations vision via regular written and in-person communications with the organization’s executives, department heads, and end users.
Creatively and collaboratively provide resolution to technical problems in a cost-effective manner.
Ensure a strong help desk and support within the organization with SLAs and demonstrated outcomes.
Develop, track, and control the technical services annual operating and capital budgets for purchasing, maintenance staffing, and operations.
Oversee recruitment, development, retention, and organization of all technical staff in accordance with corporate budgetary objectives and personnel policies within Technical Operations.
Ensure efficient delivery of technical services through agreed upon operational standards. Ensure equipment and software operation adheres to applicable laws and regulations.
Where necessary, oversee and develop patenting of intellectual property, inventions, and business processes.

Position Requirements
Formal Education & Certification

A university degree in the field of computer engineering is desirable. MBA a plus.

Knowledge & Experience

15 years’ experience managing and/or directing technological operations.
Experience in strategic technology planning, execution, and policy development.
Excellent knowledge of technology environments, infrastructure, including telecommunications, networks, hardware, business applications, programming, media, and support
Prior experience in managing a technology operation and staff in a small to medium business
Demonstrated experience in administration of technology operations department and staff. Experience in thought leadership and collaboration in business strategy and how to optimize technology in business use including timely problem solving.
Experience with implementation of ITILframework
Excellent understanding of project management principles.
Proven experience in planning, organization, budgeting, and development.
Superior understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
In-depth knowledge of applicable laws and regulations as they relate to technology issues.
