The Supply Chain and Business Development Manager is critical to the growth and success of Fresh Connect Central a growing regional cooperative housed inside Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana currently serving more than 40 food banks across the Feeding America national network. The Supply Chain and Business Development Manager will oversee all activities related to sourcing approximately 35 million pounds of fresh produce, protein, and dairy for Fresh Connect Central customers.
• Purchase/acquire produce, protein, and dairy within targeted price points to fulfill demand from customers and achieve appropriate additional on-hand inventory.
• Collaborate with Production Manager, Engagement Manager, and Operations Manager to understand customer needs and determine an optimum course of action to meet these needs.
• Assist and support the warehouse shipping and receiving team with product quality issues, rejections, checks, discrepancies, damages, late loads, and other unforeseen problems on an as-needed basis.
• Perform regular product inventory counts and quality checks to ensure accuracy and minimize shrink.
• Manage all on-hand and inbound inventory by making recommendations for special product offerings to our network, changing product mix in our Fresh to Go Boxes as needed, and ensuring FIFO is followed.
• Grow, develop, and maintain working relationships with vendor partners, growers, freight carriers, Feeding America colleagues, other regional produce cooperatives, state associations, and member food banks to broaden our scope and reach for sourcing opportunities.
• Actively research and analyze local/regional growers to better understand supply chain capacity and limitations in order to grow the volume of local/regional produce sourced.
• Visit local and regional growers/producers to build partnerships, negotiate agreements, obtain feedback, and create visibility of Fresh Connect Central and its capabilities as an opportunistic outlet for unusable or unmarketable produce, protein, and/or dairy.
• Attend relevant conferences and trade shows to network with growers/producers to build partnerships and create visibility of Fresh Connect Central and its capabilities as an opportunistic outlet for unusable or unmarketable produce, protein, and/or dairy.
• Engage with Feeding America and other regional produce cooperatives to develop new and creative strategies that assist in the development and expansion of Fresh Connect Central and the sourcing of produce, protein, and/or dairy.
• Strategically analyze and interpret multiple pieces of data (including but not limited to historical inbound volumes and purchase history, produce market trends, projected market fluctuations, cost-supply components, weather patterns, seasonal sales trends, quality reports, and product shelf life) to build and maintain optimized forecast models.
• Oversee all accounts payable processes for distribution-sourced items to ensure correct rates have been invoiced, and provide resolution for all billing disputes.
• Maintain up-to-date and accurate freight industry information, including current transportation market data rates, industry trends, and overall cost movements.
• Assist with regular Feeding America reporting requirements and audits.
• Work collaboratively across departments in Gleaners organization to ensure the achievement of operational efficiencies.
• Active participation in staff, departmental, board or board committee meetings as requested.
• Supervise, hire, train, motivate, coach, manage performance, discipline, and evaluate direct report.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education and/or Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree, preferably related to Agribusiness, Agriscience, or Natural Resource Management
• Prior experience in the agriculture industry desired
• Prior experience of customer relationship management desired
• Knowledge of food safety regulations and/or food banking industry desired
• Volunteer/staff management or appropriate related experience.
• Valid driver's license/Clean driving record /Must be insurable by company vehicle insurance provider
