Reporting Relationship: Accounting Manager

Position Summary: The Staff Accountant performs various accounting functions to support the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank (CPFB) throughout the year. The Staff Accountant is engaged in a range of financial and administrative activities, including preparing and inputting accurate journal entries during the month, application of funds, general ledger accounting, assisting with the annual audit and budget process, and supporting the monthly close process.

Job responsibilities

Job Accountabilities:
• Perform month-end closing procedures and assist with preparation of reconciliations monthly financial statements and reports within the allotted closing schedule.
• Process agency payment and accounts receivable transactions in an accurate and timely manner. Practice excellent customer service when assisting agencies with accounts receivable inquiries.
• Assist with accounts receivable and accounts payable functions performed by the Senior Accountant and Accounting Coordinator, as needed.
• Assist the Accounting Manager with the preparation of financial analyses, including status of funds, budget variances, inventory, capital expenses, and endowment spending.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Other Duties:
• In instances of a federal, state or locally declared emergency, CPFB is typically considered an essential service and emergency responder all employees may be called in to perform regular or emergent duties.

Experience:
• Must be a skilled professional with strong accounting background.
• Must have a strong working knowledge of accounting principles, systems, and processes.
• Must have an understanding of U.S. GAAP.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel preferred; must be able to leverage technology effectively.
• Experience with non-profit accounting and/or public accounting a plus.
• Demonstrated experience in working independently and proactively to address problems.

• Knowledge of the organization’s computer software and systems, including Microsoft Office Suite particularly Microsoft Excel, department-specific software systems, telecommunications, and internet applications.
• Ability to operate standard office equipment (machines, tools, and devices) used in performing only the essential function including computer and related equipment, typewriter, calculator, photocopier, fax machine, and telephone.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Physical Requirements or Licenses:
• This position has the ability to work remote, in-office or hybrid at the discretion of the Controller or based on the needs of the organization.
• A valid driver’s license with history of a good driving record.
• Ability to travel that may include consecutive overnight stays, and traveling by car, bus, and airplane.
• Conditions may include working closely with others, working alone, and working protracted or irregular hours.
• Must be able to occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
• The work environment is typically quiet.

Application qualifications

Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration preferred.
• Minimum two years professional work experience in related field.
• Combination of education, experience, and/or training that provides the required knowledge and skills for the position would be considered in lieu of having a degree.

Experience:
