Primary responsibility is to support the Food Bank’s food acquisition programs, particularly purchasing, agriculture, and national sourcing to ensure that Food Bank activities and practices support the needs of its agencies in conjunction with operational and food safety standards. Actively solicit new donors. Monitor availability via MealConnect and Choice systems as well as other supply lines. Communicate produce and dry load availability where needed to cluster members and arrange load and transportation details as needed.

Job responsibilities

• Creating, managing, and directing purchase orders to guarantee timely arrival of products
• Manage, track, and adhere to multiple budget lines for product sourcing
• Obtain the best value for our organization through skillful negotiation with our supplier partners
• Determine product mix and stock levels and maintain a keen eye on inventory levels
• Develop and maintain good working relationships with suppliers and farm partners
• Conduct face to face visits with suppliers and farm partners where possible to monitor programs, obtain feedback and to assess overall implementation effectiveness as needed
• Implement identification, cultivation and stewardship activities that strengthen relationships with donation partners
• Develop a work plan for food acquisition based on strategic planning, using demand forecasting, partner and client feedback on product selection, and calendar planning of special projects
• Resolve any unforeseen problems with quality/performance quickly and professionally with vendors or donors
• Responsible for supplier relations, generates quarterly and end of year donor mailings, and thank you letters
• Prepare operational reports to measure departmental and organizational performance
• Communicate with cluster Food Bank partners frequently to determine needs
• Work with cluster Food Bank partners in Colorado to mutually source produce and track order specifics by member
• Work to ensure Care and Share’s growth and nutrition goals are achieved
• Maintain accurate files and appropriate tracking to allow consistent follow-up
• Responsible for creation and maintenance of donor records, contacts, items, and other associated elements in Ceres, Care and Share’s ERP system.
• Maintain working relationships with product sourcers and related persons at Feeding America
• Analyze data and insights to determine industry trends and act accordingly
• May attend food industry events, including trade shows and association meetings
• Represent Care and Share in the Feeding America network in groups and on network calls, and in other industry groups such as Dare2Share
• Occasionally travel within Care and Share Food Bank’s 31 county region
• All other duties as assigned

Application qualifications

Work experience requirements:

• Valid Colorado Driver’s License
• ServeSafe Certification or ability to pass ServeSafe certification upon hiring
• Experience with agriculture/produce work preferred
• Purchasing, or related sourcing experience preferred
• Excellent communication, public-speaking and project management skills.
• Ability to analyze trends in food and transportation markets and have a keen eye to detail
• Ability to learn quickly and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to effectively work with internal customers and teams.
• Ability to multi-task and work under pressure.
• Proficient computer skills to include Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint


• Pay Range: $23-25 per hour
