Description

One of the Food Depository’s most important collaborations to reduce hunger is through the Illinois Commission to End Hunger. Under direction of the State Engagement and Innovation Lead, the Public Policy Associate Manager will work to advance the Commission’s implementation of From Food Insecurity to Food Equity: A Roadmap to End Hunger in Illinois. The Roadmap outlines a multi-year, three-part strategy for better connecting people to nutrition assistance programs and promoting equitable access to food. The Commission convenes working groups to advance this strategy.
The Public Policy Associate Manager role will work in partnership with the State Engagement and Innovation Lead to staff the Illinois Commission to End Hunger and advance the work plans of Commission working groups. The Public Policy Associate Manager will manage and support projects, engage working group members and other stakeholders, and conduct policy research. Key projects include development of a statewide public-private nutrition program marketing campaign and advancing administrative and legislative policy changes to make it easier for food insecure people to access nutrition assistance programs.

Job responsibilities

· Assist State Engagement and Innovation Lead with staffing of the Illinois Commission to End Hunger, including scheduling, logistics, and follow up for Commission meetings and webinars; drafting and disseminating Commission newsletter; and maintaining Commission website.
· Project managing Commission focus groups, listening sessions, and informational interviews through scheduling, recruiting, summary and analysis, and other support.
· Support State Engagement and Innovation Lead in the development of new statewide public-private marketing campaign to promote nutrition program awareness, including supporting project team on content and website development, developing a dissemination strategy, and executing the dissemination strategy.
· Conduct policy research in support of working group policy priorities, including food insecurity and food inequity, nutrition assistance programs, poverty policy, innovation and best practices, and related issues.
· Create clear and accurate talking points, graphs, and visuals.
· Prepare fact sheets, policy memos, talking points, presentation decks, and other written materials as needed.
· Maintain effective collaboration and coordination with other Food Depository teams such as programs, communications, development, and research, including keeping them informed and gathering input.
· Participate in and present at policy-related meetings, events, and conferences.
· Other responsibilities as assigned.

Application qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelor’s degree required.
· Minimum of 3 years of work experience with a proven track record in public policy, research, program management, advocacy, government, or political campaigns OR Master’s Degree in public policy, social work, public health, or a related field.
· Experience with public policy analysis required. Experience with coalitions preferred.
· Quick learner with strong analytical skills and curiosity.
· Committed to producing a high standard of work.
· Must be detail-oriented, organized, and able to effectively manage projects with multiple moving pieces.
· Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
· Strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills.
· Ability to work with limited supervision.
· Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with teammates and across teams in a fast-paced environment.
· Ability to travel in Illinois (approximately 4 times per year) and to Washington, DC (approximately 1-2 times per year).
· Proficiency in MS Office- Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.

EXPOSURE:
