The Marketing and Communications Manager is responsible for the increase reach and impact of Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee’s profile and visibility through the delivery of high value and influential marketing, communications and PR thereby significantly contributing to the development of new partnerships and funding opportunities. To achieve this, you will work with the marketing and communications team developing and implementing a marketing and communications strategy across a range of proactive and strategically planned opportunities in print, media, events and online.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
a. Motivate, inspire, and support staff so they are thinking and acting at their best, delivering high-quality work, working as an effective team, and meeting organizational and individual objectives.
b. Support the professional development of the team to continuously develop skills and expertise and support career development aspirations.
c. Supervise and direct the workflow of the marketing, communications, digital media, and special events team by assigning job tasks, facilitating interdepartmental communications, and managing external communications.
d. Maximize collaboration, efficiency and creativity in the building and maintenance of consistent branding across all public relations channels.
e. Responsible for staying up to date on industry trends.
f. Supervise projects to guarantee all content is publication ready.
g. Respond to communication-related issues in a timely manner.
h. Manage marketing and communications budget and ensure program milestones related to marketing and communication are achieved on time and within budget.
a. Develop and refine the marketing goals, pricing strategies, promotional activities, and branding in consultation with team.
b. Directing market analysis and research to identify trends and opportunities.
c. Design and develop creative communication and marketing materials to support program objectives, sponsors, and grant promises.
d. Ensure all marketing documents and messaging upholds the Second Harvest brand guidelines and messaging is consistent across all platforms.
e. Plan and implement direct marketing approaches including targeting, personalization of messages and measurability, data analysis, customer profiling and segmentation.
i. Work with digital and print teams at RKD specific to direct mail and digital mail appeals, acquisitions, newsletters etc.
ii. Develop campaigns for MAYDAY and Double Your Donation Day
a. Ensure all content is created with Second Harvest’s voice, including grammar and punctuation.
b. Creation of internal communications, press releases, press kits, newsletters, related marketing, and speeches given by executives as well as web or social media presence.
c. Develop and implement effective communication strategies that build customer loyalty programs, brand awareness and customer satisfaction.
d. Prepare detailed media activity reports.
e. Coordinate with newspapers, TV, and radio stations for all advertising needs, including events. Ensure all design for digital and print ads for media are completed.
f. Work with video companies to develop videos to use for website, social and promotional purposes.
a. Develop a web strategy and process to keep the website up to date.
a. Develop and oversee strategic activities and events.
b. Ensure all marketing and communication promises for sponsors and grants are met in all event collateral.
c. Responsible for being a key player in reaching yearly special event contribution budget goals.
Skills, Education and Experience:
1. Commitment to understanding and supporting Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee’s mission and demonstrating compassion and understanding of hunger issues.
2. Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, PR, Marketing, Business, or 5 years of experience in similar field
3. Excellent leadership abilities
4. Proven experience creating targeted content is advantageous.
5. Strong knowledge of communication practices and techniques.
6. An astute writer
7. Excellent organizational skills and deadline driven.
8. Ability to understand and execute complex instructions.
9. Ability to work on several projects at once under tight deadlines.
10. Strong interpersonal skills: ability to work effectively with professionals, nonprofessionals, and volunteers.
11. Strong customer focus.
