The Gardens for Everyone (G4E) project is for anyone who is interested in having a home garden in Wake or Durham County. Priority is given to low- to moderate-income households, as well as organizations in this area that want to grow food for their community.
The Gardens for Everyone Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, and executing the construction of G4E raised-bed garden boxes and maintaining efficiencies to expedite the building process to completion. This position works closely with the Community Garden Manager and is assisted by volunteers and interns to ensure project goals are met. The G4E Coordinator is based at the Camden St. Learning Garden in Raleigh but travel to other locations in our service area for site visits and other duties is routinely required.

Job responsibilities

• Build 4 x 8 x 20” raised-bed garden boxes
• Complete site visits to ensure the site has adequate space, sunlight, and access to a water supply, as required to be eligible to receive a garden box.
• Work as a team with volunteers to complete builds
• Work independently when volunteers are not available or with the assistance of other Food Shuttle staff or interns.
• Maintain ongoing communication with the Community Garden Manager and others involved in the build to ensure efficiencies related to supply needs, site visits, and build schedules
• Drive and operate an assigned Food Shuttle vehicle or truck to and from building sites and other locations as needed.
• Loading and cutting lumber
• Pick up soil, moving soil to fill the raised-bed garden boxes, light ground leveling to place boxes evenly

Application qualifications

• Construction or landscaping experience is preferred, but not required.
• Experience using power tools (including but not limited to impact drivers, circular saws, and power drills) is required
• Ability to operate a dump back pickup truck
• Comfortable, willing, and able to engage in tasks requiring physical labor as a primary function of the position
• Ability to set a schedule, manage priorities and meet deadlines
• Ability to problem solve and respond appropriately to unexpected changes
• Ability to work a flexible weekly work schedule.
• Valid North Carolina driving license and an insurable motor vehicle record
• Ability to work well as part of a team
• Comfortable working with participants of all socio-economic and cultural backgrounds

$17.68- $20 per hour based on experience
