Director of Food Strategy and Acquisition

We are looking for a Director of Food Strategy and Acquisition to provide supervision and professional guidance to members of the food sourcing department. The Director of Food Strategy and Acquisition will continually work with all sectors of the food industry to strengthen relationships, provide frequent department updates to senior staff, members of the CFBNJ board and food sourcing committee. This position will increase public awareness of the needs of the food bank. This position will report directly to the Senior Director of Supply Chain and Logistics.

Job responsibilities

Manage the development of CFBNJ food sourcing and procurement plan which leads to more effective operations, and secure greater quantities and diversified sources of food for hunger relief;
Develop and lead all product procurement activities and provide insights toward achieving CFBNJs key performance indicators
Identify opportunities in the local food system – from agricultural producers, processors, consumer goods manufacturers, to retail and food service companies – for food banks to procure surplus food and mitigate food loss and waste, in a manner practical and efficient to the food bank model;
Develop greater proficiencies in all food acquisition activities, specifically focusing on creating inbound product plans based on the opportunities in each food stream: Donated, Government Commodities.
Track and analyze all food acquisition data on a daily to weekly basis to create a transparent culture key where departments can effectively work together

Application qualifications

Good communication, written and interpersonal skills; outgoing personality
Food business background strongly preferred
Microsoft Office Suite experience
Ability to learn CERES system
Attention to detail is required
Must have reliable transportation as travel to multiple locations will be required
Must have a valid driver’s license
Must be able to carry bulk materials as necessary, up to about 30 lbs.

High School graduate or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
