Title: Director of Food Sourcing
Classification: Full-time, Exempt, 40 hours/week
Reports to: Executive Director and CEO
Salary Range: $60,000/annually
The Food Donor Relationship Director formulates and executes a strategy to solicit donations of food and other products from the food industry including manufacturers, distributors, farmers, and supermarkets to ensure continued growth in food resources for the Food Bank of Northern Indiana. This position is responsible for securing a steady stream of food donations from local food donors by cultivating existing relationships and developing new relationships with local network partners and food donors. The Food Donor Relationship Manager ensures that all food acquisition activities reflect the highest level of professionalism, follows best business practices and creates positive community relations in the Food Bank’s six-county service area. The person in this role has a shared passion for the Food Bank’s mission and empathy for people who go hungry.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1) Work closely with Executive Director and CEO to develop and implement food sourcing strategies to meet annual and long-range goals.
2) Develops and cultivates new food donors including retailers, processors, manufacturers, restaurants, cafeterias (schools, hospitals, etc.), vegetable growers and meat processors throughout the Food Bank’s six-county service area (Elkhart, Kosciusko, LaPorte, Marshall, Starke and St. Joseph Counties) to ensure food donations increase annually.
3) Cultivate current food donors with the goal of receiving more pounds per donation and more frequent donations
4) Collaborates with Warehouse Manager to make the most efficient use of transportation and other logistics needed for handling donations.
5) Provides required monthly, quarterly and annual reports as required by food donors, Feeding America National Office, USDA and Food Bank leadership.
6) Develops and maintains donor recognition program and awards for major food donors.
7) Determines form and frequency of solicitations and develops a system of donor tracking, reporting and acknowledgements.
8) Works with Warehouse Manager and Finance Manager to ensure inventory needs are met.
9) Facilitates and maintains Agency Store Donation Program and Direct Agency Pick-Up Program.
10) Provides ongoing training to retail partners and agency staff as appropriate.
11) Hosts industry visits and tours to demonstrate the Food Bank’s mission and the importance of donors and their impact on the communities served.
12) Attend food industry events including trade shows, association meetings and network conferences as required.
13) Assemble a Food Advisory Council or Committee for the Food Bank’s six-county service area.
14) Receive ServeSafe certification.
15) Performs all other duties as assigned by the Executive Director and CEO.
Minimum Qualifications for Education, Training and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Agricultural Business or related field is preferred.
• Five or more years of related experience in customer relations, packaged good sales (food industry preferred) or culinary/hospitality sales.
• Excellent communications, interpersonal and customer service skills; comfortable with public speaking.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Self-starter, strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong negotiation skills.
• Ability to attend work functions outside of normal work hours, including early mornings, evenings and weekends as necessary.

• Self-starter who is goal-driven in initiating donor visits and inquiries.
• Demonstrated relationship building.

• Demonstrated negotiation and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to make independent decisions.
• Must have high integrity and a strong work ethic.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and self-supporting as to computer and clerical needs.

This position may require early morning, evening or weekend work or a longer workday as necessary. Requires a valid driver’s license and the ability to travel independently by car for work and have reliable transportation. Must be able to lift and move up to 35 pounds.
