Community Relations Manager

This position is primarily responsible for planning and organizing various programs related to public relations, marketing and community relations. This position also requires general management duties.

Job responsibilities

Maintains a relationship with local media sources to promote the Food Bank’s services and writes and submits for Director approval and submits all press releases for Food Bank programs.

Identifies opportunities for outreach and schedules marketing and speaking presentations for Executive Director. Designs and if needed gives General Food Bank presentations. Keeps track of outreach presentations by self and staff and advises as needed.

Coordinates outreach and awareness events for the Food Bank, promotes awareness events, fundraising events and food drives. Plans, facilitates, and directs community awareness events of the food bank and coordinates event efforts with staff, volunteers, development Committee and other Board Committees. Maintains a calendar of events and distributes to food bank staff and board

Prepares and distributes a detailed written report to the Executive Director of all public relations activities and participation on a monthly basis. Tracks and records media coverage of Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee.

Coordinates the food bank’s marketing committee and Coordinates marketing campaigns with Executive Director.

Monitors Social media and keeps messages current, engage and respond to media according to various campaigns and messages, takes steps to ensure all audiences are being reached and check website weekly to keep it up to date.

Works with various organizations to coordinate and implement large food drives including scheduling, promoting, tracking results, and creating reports.

Works closely with Advocacy Manager on Legislative Day of Service at the food bank and helps maintain records of events and communication and inputs that information on the Advocacy Hall of Fame Tracker for Feeding America. In the absence of the Advocacy Manager, help maintain communication with national, state, and local legislative personnel.

Application qualifications

Should possess a BS/BA Degree in Marketing. Prefer three (3) years of experience in a business office non-profit environment functioning in marketing and public relations position. Should demonstrate strong skills and communication, written, mathematical, management and computer literacy.
