Position Summary: The Community Organizer builds an ever-growing base of community leaders in Harney and Malheur Counties and moves these leaders up a ladder of engagement. From recruitment, to political education, to leadership development - the Community Organizer ensures that we are building political power to advance systems and policy change. Base building will cross OFB’s volunteer, partner agency and client communities.
-Participate in development and implementation of organizing projects that build a Black, Indigenous and people of color-led leadership core.
-Engage leadership core in analysis, skills building and action to move them up a ladder of engagement in context of service to systems change.
-Identify opportunities to amplify the leadership and stories of leaders as experts through experience.
-Implement year round civic engagement strategies that engage individuals and partner agencies in alignment with OFB’s movement building, organizing and policy change priorities in Harney and Malheur County.
-Based on capacity, provide on the ground support to local organizing campaigns aligned with our priorities.
-Coordinates with Ontario Branch Manager and Ontario program staff to strategize and implement year round civic engagement strategies.
-Participate in leading organizing trainings within OFB and with our organizational partners as needed.
-Participate fully in cross-department teams as assigned or as critical to position responsibilities.
-Participate fully in OFB’s Advocacy, Volunteer and Organizing Team, share leadership across the team in peer to peer collaboration and team development.
-Participate fully in OFB’s organizational planning processes, data and technology systems, lobbying and finance tracking processes and organizational equity journey.
Organizational level responsibilities of exempt employees include:
To be an ambassador and a leader for OFB’s vision and mission, a cross-departmental collaborator, and an active contributor to building a movement to end hunger for good.
In consultation and coordination with the supervisor, actively contribute to:
-work culture activities and programming
-advisory and consultative groups such as the compensation committee, affinity groups, Equity Ambassadors, Equity Think Tank meetings, among others
plan and engage in professional development activities that strengthen your capacity for your specific role as well as your capacity to contribute and advance organizational goals, OFB’s vision and mission.

Skills and Experience:
-2-3 years experience in community engagement.
-Experience living and/or organizing in rural, small town Oregon or in Malheur/Harney counties.
-Ability to learn and develop community organizing skills and to apply skills in a range of contexts.
-Ability to learn and execute a range of technological tactics for organizing, including but not limited to phone banking, mass texting, social media, virtual community meetings, etc.
-Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with a range of audiences.
-Outstanding relationship-building skills. Ability to develop and maintain relationships in the context of building relationships for the organization and its mission.
-Demonstrated ability to navigate conflict through effective leadership and problem-solving.
-Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information effectively and confidentially.
-Ability to drive/valid driver’s license.
-Organizational level skills and experience for exempt employees include:

The pay range for this role is $56,868-$64,179. In anticipation of the upcoming OSHA mandate, proof of COVID vaccination status will be required and/or an Oregon Food Bank approved exemption for health or religious reasons, which will require weekly COVID testing.
The Fine Print:
Work environment: Work is performed in an office environment while sitting in meetings or at a computer screen for extended periods inside and outside of Oregon Food Bank and will use computer and phones extensively. May work outside of general working hours of 8:00 – 5:00 p.m., such as evenings and weekends, and occasional travel out of town may occur. This role requires travel/personal vehicle use /work outside normal hours. Work may require to lift, move and carry objects from 20 to 40 pounds, such as boxes containing office and other supplies. Crouching, bending, kneeling and reaching when filing. Accommodations may be available upon request.
