Job responsibilities

The Houston Food Bank is seeking a VISTA member to support the ongoing development and strengthening of the Houston Food Systems Collaborative. This collaborative is a cross-sector group working to address hunger through community partnerships. The VISTA will also support the development of the food bank’s Veterans Strategy to help the food bank better serve the local veteran population. The duties will include attending collaborative meetings, assessing group needs, and assisting in creating documents and processes that will help sustain the group’s efforts. Additional duties may include evaluating progress and using collected data to generate reports. The VISTA will also engage community members and clients in one-on-one interviews in association with to inform conversations around hunger and expand community knowledge and support for the anti-hunger efforts.

Application qualifications

● College Graduate or equivalent experience
● Interest in innovative approaches to addressing poverty and public health
● Access to reliable transportation, personal vehicle recommended
● Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills
● Minimum 18 years of age
● Responsible for finding own housing
