The CFO is a key member of the organization’s leadership team and serves as a top advisor to the CEO, COO and Board of Directors. Job responsibilities

Finance and Accounting: The chief financial officer oversees the organization’s financial planning, recordkeeping, performance and accountability, and works closely with the CEO to responsibly balance a bold vision with fiscal pragmatism.
-Oversees all aspects of the organization’s accounting functions including accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, reconciliation of accounts, grant accounting, fixed asset control, depreciation and banking practices.
-Develops, implements, and maintains all financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
-Prepares and analyzes monthly balance sheets and income statements.
-Prepares and presents financial reports, analyses, data, and dashboards for the CEO and Board.
-Leads the development, and is accountable for the effective oversight, of the annual organizational budget: assists in the preparation of program, project and grant budgets.
-Manages cash flow, and oversees investment portfolios in accordance with established policies.
-Leads the organization’s financial planning and forecasting processes to ensure alignment with mission and strategic plans, effective use of resources, and the long-term viability of the organization.
-Coordinates the annual audit process and other fiscal audits.
-Supervises the accounting manager position.

Information Technology: The chief financial officer drives efforts to implement and utilize technology to maximize staff and organizational efficiency and effectiveness. Directs all aspects of the IT function including planning, vendor relationships, hardware, software, network, systems, email and security.
-Develops, implements, and monitors information technology policies and procedures.
-Contracts for external IT services and oversees relationship and major initiatives with vendor.
-Develops annual and long-term plan for adding and replacing hardware and equipment.
-Consults on adding, enhancing, changing, and integrating software systems based on IT trends as well as long and short-term organizational goals.

Inventory Management: The chief financial officer leads inventory management and control function to ensure processes, tracking and reporting are effective and in compliance with required standards.
-Oversees monthly and quarterly inventory reporting including internal inventory adjustments, Feeding America requirements and both state and federal reporting.
-Manages strategy and tracking related to cycle counts and spot audits for order picking and receiving.
-Provides direction and oversight of inventory management system; continual review for improved usage or upgrade.
-Supervises inventory control manager.

Administration: The chief financial officer oversees the risk management, compliance and legal functions of the organization.
-Manages relationship with 3rd party legal support and responsible for all contract review.
-Oversees the organization’s risk management policies and procedures; participates in the Risk Management Committee.
-Ensures adequate insurance coverage for all aspects of the organization.
-Partners with HR in coordinating worker’s compensation, safety efforts and reporting.
-Ensures that all federal, state, and tax compliance reports and filings are completed and filed in a timely manner.

Organizational Leadership: As a member of the senior leadership team, the chief financial officer actively contributes to the organization’s strategic planning processes and implementation of core strategies to achieve annual work plan, strategic plan and long-term transformational goals.
-Serves on the staff leadership team, helping develop organizational plans, implement core strategies and key initiatives, and evaluate progress and performance.
-Participates in developing and executing the leadership team’s annual work plan.
-Serves as a resource to the Board of Directors and board committees in areas of expertise.

Application qualifications

Education, Experience and Requirements:
Successful candidates for this position must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management or related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience in Accounting or Finance, preferably in a leadership role at a nonprofit. A CPA is preferred but not required. Preferred candidates to have experience in oversight of Human Resources and Information Technology. Valid driver’s license is required.
