About the organization

MID-SOUTH FOOD BANK

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

https://www.midsouthfoodbank.org/

The Organization: The Mid-South Food Bank’s mission is to change lives by eliminating hunger in the Mid-South. By providing food for families, children and seniors, we impact their lives by solving one of the biggest struggles they face: getting enough nutritious food to eat to live a healthy life. The Mid-South Food Bank has an excellent reputation in the communities it serves and is a member of the nation’s largest domestic hunger relief network, Feeding America. We serve 31 counties in Tennessee, Mississippi, and Arkansas. Through Food Bank operated programs and a network of 275 partner agencies, over 400,000 people are assisted annually. This spring, we are excited to consolidate our operations into a brand new distribution center which will allow us to serve more people more efficiently. The Center will open in June and has the benefit of being closer to many of the Food Bank’s food donors and is closer to major highways.

The Mid-South Food Bank programs are geared toward the needs of a variety of constituents:

Children: In the Mid-South Food Bank’s service area nearly one in five children is food insecure. The Food Bank serves children in the region by distributing food through its partner agencies, and through its child hunger programs - Kids Cafe, Food for Kids BackPacks and Healthy School Pantry.

Families: Hunger’s Hope distributes food through its network of partner agencies: food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, youth and senior programs, rehabilitation and residential centers. The Mobile Pantry provides direct distribution of perishable and non-perishable foods to underserved communities.

Seniors: More than 29 percent of those receiving assistance from the Food Bank’s partner agencies are seniors over age 60. Through its senior nutrition program, the Mid-South Food Bank distributes food specifically to seniors. Senior Grocery Boxes are available through partner agencies and Mobile Pantries.

The Mid-South Food Bank has an operating budget of approximately $5m with 51 full-time staff and thousands of volunteers. The Food Bank is forecasted to distribute 15m pounds of food for 2019.
