The Central Texas Food Bank is looking for a passionate Bilingual Nutrition Educator. As a member of our Nutrition Education Department, you will provide nutrition education to our clients within the 21 counties we serve. As a Nutrition Educator, you will share knowledge and/or conduct trainings on the topics of nutrition, gardening, cooking, culinary skills, food resource management and/or food safety to a diverse range of ages in a group and/or community setting. In addition, this role must be able to juggle multiple projects with attention to detail and accuracy while adhering to deadlines in a high-energy, fast-paced environment. Reporting to the Nutrition Education Manager, this position works independently with minimal supervision and must be flexible with working hours to meet the client and class schedule which may include evenings and weekends.

Job responsibilities

As a Nutrition Educator, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Facilitating Nutrition Education classes that promote healthy lifestyles and obesity prevention.
  • Performing weekly ranking of CTFB Inventory using a validated tool that measures the nutritional quality of foods distributed.
  • Creating, testing and analyzing new recipes for Partner Agencies, Food Bank Programs, and class participants that meet the current Dietary Guidelines for Americans requirements.
  • Submitting accurate closed class data and evaluation results by the assigned deadline to Nutrition Education Manager for each nutrition education course taught.    
  • Providing accurate and timely data entry into the Program Evaluation and Reporting System (PEARS), a SNAP-Ed data tracking system.
  • Collaborating with the Marketing and Communications team to create articles and promote nutrition education programming via the website and social media.
  • Assisting with revisions of the class curriculum, evaluations (i.e. pre and post-tests), and other class materials as needed to meet the needs of the clients and SNAP-Ed requirements.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned by Supervisor in support of the goals of the Central Texas Food Bank.  
  • You are a great candidate if you have
  • Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Major course work in Nutrition, Health Education, Science or a related field preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency required.
  • Experience working with volunteers and families of varying socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Exercise good judgment and discretion; strong ethical character capable of handling confidential information.
  • Experience collaborating with coworkers on projects/tasks by helping out where needed; providing an adequate lead time for others to meet deadlines; willing to help out, no matter how big or small the task.
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills. In particular, the ability to understand and organize detailed information and to write about or talk extemporaneously on that information.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, the Internet and non-profit software.
  • Bonus points for
  • Demonstrated knowledge, understanding, familiarity, and sensitivity to hunger and health issues.
  • Knowledge of federal nutrition programs.
  • Experience with nutrition analysis software.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS WITH OR WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION

  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, repetitively lift and carry 50 lbs., perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle, and operate motor equipment.
