Description

The Associate Director of Community Engagement leads the strategic direction for a large-scale volunteer program that welcomes 20,000+ individuals annually. This critical, community-facing position is responsible for promoting and supporting a variety of ways individuals, organizations, and corporate groups can engage with the Food Bank. They will oversee a high-performance team of three employees responsible for implementing the Food Bank’s annual plan to broaden and deepen engagement in our work through traditional and skills- and professional-based volunteer engagement. As a member of the Food Bank’s development department and leadership team, they report to the Director of Community Engagement and Marketing, and will collaborate with directors and teams across the organization to support the execution of our strategic plan and initiatives.

Job responsibilities

The Associate Director of Community Engagement leads the strategic direction for a large-scale volunteer program that welcomes 20,000+ individuals annually. Theywill oversee a high-performance team of three employees responsible for implementing the Food Bank’s annual plan to broaden and deepen engagement in our work through traditional and skills- and professional-based volunteer engagement. As a member of the Food Bank’s development department and leadership team, they report to the Director of Community Engagement and Marketing, and will collaborate with directors and teams across the organization to support the execution of our strategic plan and initiatives.

Application qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• 6-8 years relevant work experience, including demonstrated success shepherding projects from strategic development through implementation over multi-year periods. Experience in a social services nonprofit, development or fundraising, or food banking a plus.
• Significant experience in volunteer management—or similar field—demonstrating ability to grow and adapt programs to meet organizational needs. Experience running a multi-faceted volunteer program with 5,000+ annual participants preferred.
• 5+ years of experience motivating, training, and supervising diverse teams. Experience and comfort managing up and laterally. Comfort having difficult conversations, including giving and receiving feedback.
• Successful history working with social impact organizations on projects that spanned across functional areas; knowledgeable in working with community-based organizations.
• Understanding of the connection between volunteer engagement and fundraising; experience leveraging volunteer engagement as a fundraising strategy.
• Proven experience with complex project management, setting and driving timelines and deliverables, and building consensus in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong attention to detail and experience keeping accurate records on complex programs.
• Adept at collaborative problem-solving, engaging staff, volunteers and partners to achieve aligned solutions.
• Clear and effective communicator; excellent presentation, negotiation, and writing skills.
• Strong customer service orientation — both organizational, interpersonal.
• Strong computer skills, including expertise with databases and software. Able to manage and effectively utilize administrative and data collection systems and databases; able to analyze data and derive actionable strategic insights.
• Valid California Driver’s License, insurable driving record, and access to a vehicle.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This work is located in both office environment and community settings. Physical activities necessary in the performance of this job: Sitting for prolonged periods; mobility to move throughout the Food Bank in performance of duties; ability to visit community settings; ability to conduct site visits including walking, bending, stooping, and squatting; ability to communicate in a clear speaking voice in person and over the phone; ability to interpret instructions and questions when asked; ability to use a computer; good social skills to facilitate assignments.

This is a full-time, exempt position. The starting annual salary is XXX. We offer an outstanding benefit package including:
