Description

This is an extraordinary time to join the development team at the Maryland Food Bank (MFB), as the organization moves into its fifth decade of collaboratively working to end hunger in Maryland.

Building off the momentum of the food bank’s 40th anniversary campaign in 2019 and the tremendous philanthropic support of the food bank’s COVID-19 pandemic response, we are currently searching for a results-driven Annual Fund Director (Director) to further strengthen our fundraising program.

Position Overview
MFB has an established track record of success securing private funding to support its hunger relief efforts. Primary responsibilities are to oversee the strategic execution and management of year-round direct mail and digital campaigns to acquire, retain and upgrade donors; lead sector-based fundraising campaigns; and grow the Sustainer’s Circle monthly giving program. This position will also provide strategy, communication, and revenue tracking to support peer-to-peer activities such as virtual food drives, donor driven events, and social media fundraisers.

Job responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Increase revenue from direct response efforts by delivering an inspiring program that is responsive to data, tells impactful stories and provides a meaningful donor experience
• Effectively manage multiple vendors to implement a comprehensive strategy for both print and digital campaigns
• Manage all direct mail projects, ensuring they are on-time, on-budget, and maintaining an up-to-date campaign calendar
• Working with the Strategic Partnerships team, utilize data and research to identify mid-level and major gift donors that will help to build the major gift pipeline.
• Collaborate with the creative team and external vendors to write compelling and effective appeals and ensure content reflects current and relevant messaging
• Track direct mail and digital giving performance against projections, including reviewing vendor-supplied dashboards
• Increase donor retention and revenue by growing the monthly sustainer program
• Manage the annual Lawyers Campaign Against Hunger committee by working with the chairs to set the goal and develop the solicitation strategy for both peer-to-peer and direct response fundraising
• Plan and execute MFB’s annual employee giving campaign by working with colleagues across the organization to inspire participation and financial support
• Create strategy to grow participation and revenue in peer-to-peer fundraising channels
• Work with the Donor Services Team to coordinate stewardship communications for direct mail and digital donors
• Serve as a leader on the Development Team

Application qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
To be successful in this position a candidate will need the following:
• Five to seven years of non-profit direct response fundraising and experience managing vendors
• Superb understanding of direct response marketing with the ability to increase revenue and use metrics to make program changes as needed
• Strong donor-centric writing skills, including appeals, with success in conveying an organization's brand through tone and value proposition
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and project management skills
• Budget management and vendor management experience required
• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to use data to make informed program changes
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Advanced level in Microsoft Word and Excel. Experience with Raiser’s Edge NXT preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and under pressure, to manage concurrent tasks and responsibilities, and to deal with changing priorities, while maintaining personal effectiveness
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other MFB staff, and the public

EDUCATION REQUIRED: A Bachelor's Degree
