This position reports to the Chief Development Officer

The Advocacy Communications Director is responsible for implementing media relations strategies that inform and influence key audiences on Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma’s (FBEO) organizational and legislative initiatives. Reporting directly to the Chief Development Officer, you will help oversee our advocacy storytelling, while executing daily communication tactics to enhance, and demonstrate, the impact of the FBEO.  The Advocacy Communications Director is responsible for serving as the primary representative of FBEO to the assigned state legislature and relevant state agencies to generate awareness and support for the FBEO. Should have a demonstrated excellence in multi-channel advocacy campaigns management, with experience producing material for the media, responding to media requests, preparing high-impact spokespeople, and proactively securing placements in a variety of media outlets.

Job responsibilities

Strategically coordinate and oversee efforts to foster the state public policy priorities of the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma (FBEO).

Work with Feeding America to identify priorities and advocacy issues.

Meets one-on-one with members of the state and local legislature, their staff, and other government officials to gain support for FBEO’s advocacy issues.

Provides policy research, development of support materials, recruitment of spokespersons, preparation of testimony, and other activities as needed to advance the FBEO’s legislative agenda

Collaborate and develop an annual state legislative agenda

Provide strategic direction and support materials for state lobby days and/or local in-district meetings

Provides required reporting information including local, state and/or federal lobbying reports and other reporting as needed

Lead public relations strategies to gain exposure for the FBEO, its service and brand.

Help amplify the FBEO’s presence on multiple media channels, write press releases, media alerts and other public relations needs.

Support media relations and influencer engagement efforts for the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma.

Monitor landscape for trending content and PR strategies that can drive the organization in new and innovative ways.

Develop internal and external communication messages and strategies.

Create content for talking points and scripts for public speaking opportunities.

Develop public-facing crisis communications when needed.

Support other Marketing functions as needed; assist leadership with various special projects or other duties as assigned according to organizational needs.

The successful candidate will have:

Excellent oral and written communication skills, including public presentations.

At least 5 years of experience in advocacy, public relations, marketing, or journalism.

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Demonstrated self-starter, and ability to work with minimal supervision.

Experience and familiarity with social media platforms and tracking software and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

Salary: $60,000 - $72,000
