Tell Congress to fight hunger

Hunger is a national crisis, though it is often hidden. It is up to us to educate our leaders so they can join the fight to end hunger. We know that when the public speaks out, elected officials listen. Help us make meaningful progress toward a hunger-free America.

Advocating for a hunger-free America

Federal nutrition programs matter. A child who cannot rely on dinner at home is assured breakfast at school because of the School Breakfast Program. A working mother who is struggling to make ends meet knows she can get help to feed her family through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as food stamps.

But our federal programs are only as strong as the support they receive on Capitol Hill. Feeding America works every day to protect and expand these vital programs to make sure that no one in America goes hungry.

Appropriations, Budget and Taxes ›

In the budget and appropriations process, the federal government sets spending for federal programs. During this time, we advocate for funding for the programs that help feed people facing hunger. Additionally, our team works to strengthen federal tax policies that support charitable giving – including policies that enhance nonprofit giving tax incentives, enable food donations from farm to fork and decrease food waste.

The Farm Bill ›

The Farm Bill is the largest piece of legislation impacting the nation’s agriculture policy and nutrition program funding. We work with the Feeding America network, the agriculture and food industry and other partners to ensure the Farm Bill protects SNAP funding, strengthens the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) and the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) and enables vital food donations.

The Child Nutrition Reauthorization Act ›

Feeding America is committed to making sure each child can go to school with a full stomach. The Child Nutrition Reauthorization Act helps our children get the nutrition they need to grow and learn through ensuring federal funding for programs that help children most in need. Some of the programs the bill funds include the National School Lunch Program, the School Breakfast program and the Summer Child Nutrition Program.

We know that when people contact their lawmakers, they listen. You could make the difference in funding for these critical programs. Tell Congress to not take food from struggling families.
