Our Issues

The issues we are tackling to help hungry Americans.

Mobilizing state and federal lawmakers to support legislative solutions for hunger relief remains a critical part of our work to help solve hunger in America.

Current political and economic pressures to reduce the deficit and cut federal spending jeopardize programs to help people in need.  Feeding America works to educate elected officials about the impact of food insecurity in their communities and identify and advance policy solutions to put struggling families on the road to healthy, hunger-free lives.

Current Public Policy

There are many ways to take action against hunger and support policies that will ensure aid to hungry families is still available. Our current focus is on these legislative efforts:

  • Child Nutrition Reauthorization: Every 5 years, Congress reexamines the laws that govern child nutrition programs and we support the continuation of funding these programs.
  • America Gives More Act: This bill helped increase the amount of food donated to nonprofits and we support allowing these tax benefits.

Overall Goals

Our public policy goals are based on our values and mission. Together, we are working to ensure that:

  • No child is at risk of hunger
  • People can get help during hard times
  • Food banks are well stocked to help those in need
  • Families have a solid foundation by having access to nutritious food

Help us advocate for programs and policies that bring relief to individuals and families struggling to get by.
